Ride to live: Meet the bike business that’s ahead of the curve
Curve Cycling design and manufacture bicycles and bike products to help cyclists get out there and achieve some of their biggest and most adventurous bike rides. We get the nitty-gritty on what makes them tick, why they love bikes and why they think you should too.
In a sentence or two, tell us: What do you do? Who for? And how does it benefit them?
We believe that the world is a better place when more people are riding bikes. Better for the environment, mental health and physical health to name a few, so we would just love seeing people get off the couch and onto any bike.
The curly questions:
You’ve got a free half-hour during your workday. What do you do?
Researching my next cycling adventure! I’ve ridden a 3,000m climb to the highest pub in Africa, have attempted 3,500km a ride from the South of Tasmania to Uluru, so it’s always about what I can do next.
Who, or what is your biggest inspiration?
My business partner Jesse Carlsson. He’s a genius (quite literally, a PHD in Applied Physics and a high-level business consultant) he’s an amazing and accomplished rider and the guy that got me into all these crazy long bike rides. The Curve Cycling team at their Melbourne HQ
When did you know you wanted to start your own business?
I think when I was a kid. My dad is an Italian immigrant, he came to Oz as a trained mechanic when he was 19 in the ’70s. He started from nothing and managed to start a modest Mechanical Repairs business that successfully raised a family of five. So he gave the idea of entrepreneurship.
What’s the biggest thing you’ve learnt this year?
When all else fails Cycling is the answer. It’s been a crazy 2020, but through it all people have cycled for exercise, for mental health, for transport. Families are riding more and it’s great to see people getting onto bikes for all these reasons.
What’s the best bit of feedback you’ve ever had?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. We all need it, and you can’t get anywhere without it.
What’s your number one way to wind down?
One guess! Yep, it’s riding. Maybe not a crazy long adventure, but a fast MTB ride where I can go out in the bush and fly through trees really quickly and get lost in the adrenalin.
What’s your favourite film and album?
The 5th element – It’s as close to a perfect film as you can get.
Favourite album is Massive Attack – Blue Lines.
What’s the smartest bit of marketing you’ve ever done?
Documenting our business journey on social media. Everything from our successes to our failures, our long rides, sharing our design ideas and ourselves. We have given people an open and honest view of our business over the years, and people are responding well to it.Curve Cycling Ride Leader Sarah Hammond
What’s the one resource you’d never be without?
My apple laptop and a phone or camera to take photos with.
What would your mum say is your greatest strength? And weakness?
I think its the same thing, “being a know-it-all, or smart arse”
What is the one regret you do not want to have in this lifetime?
Not trying something, just because it scares you. Doing a crazy ride, or starting your own business, it’s scary because you don’t know what’s going to happen, but it doesn’t mean you should not try it.
What inspires you most about your work?
Seeing people come back on one of our bikes with a massive smile on there face after they have achieved a great adventure.
What do you wear to work?
It’s pretty casual at work, so we’ve instituted a “Formal Friday” as an excuse for us to all dress up.
What do you love most about running your own business?
It’s the power of taking an idea and making it a reality. While riding is clearly not the answer to everything, we believe that getting people off the couch and out riding is ultimately a good thing, so taking actions for your business to achieve these goals is invigorating.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.
