Building a viable business model with Archie Rose’s Will Edwards
Will Edwards is the founder of Australia’s most awarded distillery, Archie Rose. In the first webinar of the series, Building foundations for a successful business, Will discusses how he leaned on market research to validate his dream of producing Australian-made spirits, transforming it into a viable business model.
Needing to validate the huge upfront investment required to build a distillery from scratch, Will took to the streets to speak to potential customers and suppliers first hand.
“I’d just walk in and tee up as many meetings as possible with bar managers, bar owners and independent bottle shops,” Will says. “And I’d ask them as many questions as they were willing to answer before they’d kick me out.”
From these conversations, the market demand for Aussie-made spirits was clear, guiding Will in building his initial business model.
“I absolutely didn’t get it right, but at least it gave me the confidence that there was a viable business there,” he says.
Marketing for the long-term with eCommerce coach Kelly Slessor
Driving business growth through thoughtful marketing is Kelly Slessor’s area of expertise. In her webinar, 3 steps to digital marketing growth, Kelly discusses some actionable tips and insights to cut through the noise and help your business reach your target audience.
Kelly dives into the three components she believes are responsibly for business success: customer, connection, and content. When it comes to finding the right customer persona for your business, Kelly has some simple advice.
“I always go for the customer that spends the most money and is the easiest to convert,” says Kelly. “That’s my top customer.”
Kelly also shares some upcoming trends all business owners should keep in mind when it comes to keeping marketing and online activity relevant.
“Security is going to become really important this year and keeping your websites up to date is going to be a really important exercise,” says Kelly, speaking to the shocking prevalence of data hacking and cyber attacks experienced by small businesses recently.
Creating thumb-stopping content with WINK Models’ Taryn Williams
As the founder of #gifted, WINK Models, The Influencers Agency and theright.fit, Taryn Williams is one of Australia’s brightest minds in branding.
“The shift in digital ad spend is growing at such an exponential rate,” Taryn says. “It’s far surpassing traditional TV ad spend.”
In her webinar, Creating a brand with influence, Taryn shares her insights on how to keep up with the changing landscape, covering everything from leveraging social proof and word of mouth to strategic collaborations with creatives and influencers.
As brand authenticity becomes increasingly important to audiences, the rules surrounding transparency have changed over the last few years, with influencers now required to state whether sponsored posts are paid or gifted.
With influencers fast becoming one of the most powerful marketing tools to leverage, Taryn urges business owners to have an open mind about who would be a perfect fit to promote your brand, exploring options beyond pretty girls on Instagram posing with a ring light.
“Podcasts and LinkedIn articles are hugely beneficial. It’s a really engaged audience,” Taryn shares.
