Put the kettle on: 5 ways tea can boost your business mojo
Celebrate International Tea Day with a cuppa, and find out a few ways tea can help you stay connected, calm and in control of your business.
If you’re like most Aussie small business owners, your day probably kicks off with a strong brew and a to-do list longer than your weekly supermarket receipt. So you know that whether you’re partial to a classic English Breakfast, a zesty green, or something herbal and hipster, tea isn’t just a trusty desk companion—it’s your secret weapon for powering through the daily grind. (Trust me, my inlaws are English and they don’t do anything without a cup of tea!)
So, in honour of International Tea Day, we’re spilling the tea (pun 100 per cent intended) on how a humble cuppa can help you sharpen your focus, stay calm under pressure, and even build better client relationships. Here’s how tea can give your business game a gentle but effective kick up the backside.
1. Tea is your productivity sidekick
Tea has a sneaky little superpower. It contains just enough caffeine to perk you up, minus the jitters that coffee sometimes brings. That means you can stay focused and energised without feeling like you’ve swallowed a jackhammer.
Plus, tea contains an amino acid called L-theanine (science-y, we know), which helps with concentration and memory. So the next time you’re deep in BAS spreadsheets or wrestling with your marketing plan, a cuppa might be just what you need to power through.
Why not eep a pot on your desk and use tea breaks as mini-pomodoros—work for 25 mins, reward yourself with a cup.
2. Tea = instant stress-buster
Running a business isn’t for the faint-hearted. One minute you’re winning new clients, the next your website crashes mid-sale. Enter: tea. Herbal blends like chamomile, peppermint or lemon balm are known for their calming effects. Even the simple act of boiling the kettle can help reset your headspace.
It’s like a mini meditation, without needing to sit cross-legged or chant. (Although if that’s your vibe, we say go for it.)
3. It brings people together
Tea is a brilliant ice-breaker. Offering a client or customer a cuppa during a meeting says “I see you” in the most hospitable Aussie way. It’s warm, it’s welcoming, and it creates space for real conversation, not just the transactional stuff.
If you run a bricks-and-mortar business, having a pot of tea on offer (or even a good stash of tea bags behind the counter) can turn a simple interaction into something memorable.
You could even try hosting a casual ‘Tea and Talk’ afternoon for your customers—low-cost, high-impact community building.
4. Tea breaks spark creativity
Ever noticed your best ideas come when you’re not staring at the screen? Taking five with a cuppa gives your brain room to breathe. It’s in those moments—mug in hand, staring out the window—that a lightbulb moment often strikes.
Whether you’re brainstorming a new product, figuring out how to stand out on socials, or wondering if you should finally start that newsletter, tea time might just be the magic window where the ideas flow.
5. It’s good for you (and your business needs you at your best)
You can’t run a thriving business if you’re running on empty. Tea’s full of antioxidants, and different blends can help with digestion, immunity, or just getting a better night’s sleep. Looking after yourself isn’t indulgent—it’s business-critical.
So next time you’re tempted to power through lunch or skip your break—don’t. Put the kettle on. Make yourself a cuppa. Drink it slowly. Let it recharge you.
