How to retain talent in an era of job mobility
The Great Resignation is far from over, according to new data from the ABS which indicates that job mobility is still at a 10-year high. Separate research by NAB confirms that nearly a quarter of Australian workers are looking to leave their job in the next year, so what are the best tactics to ensure you can retain your staff? asks Scott Wiltshire – GM, Oracle NetSuite ANZ.
A desire for flexibility and more purposeful work are among the reasons that Australians are considering leaving their jobs. As a result, business leaders should be actively exploring ways to attract and retain top talent, such as providing meaningful work, implementing flexible work arrangements, and streamlining workflows.
Freeing people to focus on rewarding work
The benefits of automation are often explained in the context of improving productivity, but in truth, the benefits of automation extend much further than that.
Implementing automated workflows can help ease employee frustration, or feelings of detachment, especially for those who are frequently engaged in manual or repetitive tasks. But more importantly, automation frees up employees to flex their creativity and problem-solving skills, each of which can help a business innovate and grow.
Being responsible for tasks that have a direct impact on business results can help employees feel more connected to business goals and increase their job satisfaction. In addition, increased levels of employee engagement will improve productivity — a win-win for employees and businesses alike.
With more time on their hands, employees may also be given new projects or opportunities that advance their careers. This is a significant benefit for ambitious employees or employees in the early stages of their career journey and may be enough to maintain engagement at their current workplace.
Supporting flexible work
The demand for flexible work arrangements is set to continue and businesses who don’t embrace this are at risk of losing valuable talent. However, managing a remote (or hybrid) workforce isn’t always easy, especially for businesses who are yet to adopt a remote-friendly infrastructure.
Adopting technologies that support remote work is crucial for maintaining seamless business operations. This includes everything from secure cloud-based storage to business management tools and applications.
A software solution that allows real-time access to business information is vital for offsite employees. Having access to accurate, up-to-date information helps remote employees make fast and confident decisions while working autonomously. Similarly, access to real-time data can help remote workers to stay informed and track progress towards company goals.
Making work frictionless
Running your business across multiple standalone systems can cause unnecessary obstacles and put a drag on productivity. Investing in tools that improve business processes and remove bottlenecks can reduce friction and help teams work together more seamlessly. For example, a fully integrated suite of cloud applications helps to streamline and standardise operations across multiple geographies, divisions, and departments — from supply chain and inventory control to customer relationship management (CRM) and financials and accounting management. Combining these functions on a single platform ensures real-time visibility into the state of a company and facilitates collaboration, ultimately leading to more productivity, greater job satisfaction, and better results.automation.
To combat heightened job mobility and retain top talent, businesses should implement automation to give time back to employees and enable them to focus on more satisfying and productive work. In addition, providing the right infrastructure to support flexible work arrangements will help employees complete their tasks with ease. Business applications have the power to improve processes, increase job satisfaction, and ultimately ensure that the business keeps its top performers and continues to run as smoothly as possible.
