Meet the finalists for the 2025 Regional Heroes competition
We’re excited to reveal the 20 incredible finalists in this year’s Regional Heroes competition, in partnership with Vodafone Business. Now it’s over to you to help choose the winner. Cast your vote and show your support for the businesses putting regional Australia on the map.
Regional businesses quietly power much of Australia’s growth. From small-town startups to community initiatives, these finalists cover everything from health and hospitality to education, tourism, creative services, tech, and beyond.
“Each of these finalists embodies the resilience, creativity and community spirit that defines regional Australia,” says Cec Busby, editor of Business Builders.
“They’re not just running great businesses, they’re creating jobs, fuelling local economies and bringing people together. That’s something worth celebrating.”
Why regional businesses matter
Regional businesses might be small in size, but their impact is massive. Together, they contribute more than $400 billion to the economy and provide jobs for millions of Australians, often in areas where options are limited.
But it’s not just about dollars. These businesses are at the heart of their communities. They offer essential services, sponsor local events, keep main streets alive and give locals a reason to stay and invest in the future. They’re also powering innovation by finding smart, creative ways to overcome challenges and get things done.
“These businesses are the heart and soul of their communities,” says Busby. “They generate revenue, they support local sports clubs, sponsor school events, and offer a lifeline during tough times. And despite facing greater challenges than many metro businesses — from patchy internet and long supply chains to extreme weather and limited access to capital — they keep showing up, building, innovating and giving back.”
Despite this, regional businesses often fly under the radar.
“That’s why we created Regional Heroes – to give these businesses the national spotlight they deserve, to celebrate their impact, and to help more Aussies discover and support them.”
