Mastering your social media game over the holiday break
As we gear up for the festive season, let’s talk strategy – not just any strategy, but how to stay chic managing your social media team and profiles over the Christmas break, explains Emily-Rose Hills, founder of the Social Media Coach.
It’s the season where your social media needs to sparkle as much as the festive lights, but without that panicked feeling in your chest like the moment you realise you haven’t finished your gift shopping just as the shops are shutting. To avoid this, I’ve compiled a holiday guide to ensure your social media game is on track without having to spend the entire break working.
5 steps to keep your socials on track
1. Early Alignment – Like a Well-Rehearsed Choir of Carol Singers
You should already be getting your marketing team aligned. Think of yourselves as a choirmaster; you need to make sure everyone’s singing from the same carol songbook. A good old team huddle to set goals, decide on themes and campaigns, and assign tasks is your starting point. It’s all about making sure everyone knows what their tasks are and when they are expected to have them finished by. Have one person responsible for a task to avoid confusion.
2. The Calendar – Plan It Like a Holiday Feast
Now, let’s talk about scheduling. Planning your social media content now is like prepping the traditional turkey in advance. It will save you from a kitchen nightmare. Plan out in detail—what goes live when— from your 12 days of giveaway posts, instagram reels with trending audio to interactive stories..
3. Plan for Key Sale Days – More Strategy, Less Madness
Boxing Day sales are like the final round in a game show. You’ve survived Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Pre Christmas. Now for the last big hurrah for the year.—planning for Boxing and New Year Sales with precision. Don’t wait until the week leading up to the holidays to get approval for campaign ideas, art work and content. Pre-schedule where you can, and ensure your team is aware of who is responsible for posting what and when if it requires manual uploading. Even if you schedule using Meta or a third-party application make sure that one of your team members checks posts have gone live
4. Thoughtful Posting – Don’t Spray and Pray
Remember, flooding your audience with content is like being at a party where the music’s too loud to talk. Each post should add value, spark joy, or offer something unique to your audience. It’s not just about being seen; it’s about being considered and remembered for the right reasons. It’s tempting to load your feed up with salesy posts about your products, but that’s likely to be what everyone else is doing, so take time to think outside the box and be different.
5. Scheduling – The Smart Way to Stay on Top
Finally, let’s talk about the magic of scheduling tools. Schedule your posts to ensure your online presence stays buzzing, even when you’re off enjoying the festivities. However, keep an eye out to ensure posts go live. Scheduled posts may fail to go live due to technical glitches, connectivity issues, incorrect settings, or account authentication problems. A roving pair of human eyes to check posts are publishing properly is as important as having travel insurance these holidays.
With early team alignment, a well-planned content calendar, smart strategies for big sale days, a focus on quality over quantity, and clever scheduling, you’re all set to conquer the social media landscape this festive season. Here’s to a season of successful posting and making your brand shine brighter than a Christmas tree. Cheers to that!
