BioPak’s sustainable growth: A technology-driven journey with NetSuite
In the world of sustainable packaging, BioPak stands out as a trailblazer, committed to creating a waste-free environment. Founded in 2008 with a mission to revolutionise the packaging industry, BioPak has emerged as a leading brand dedicated to providing innovative and sustainable solutions. At the helm of BioPak’s technological evolution is Jan Cerny, the Chief Technology Officer, who shares insights into the pivotal role that NetSuite’s technology has played in the company’s growth.
Building a Sustainable Future: BioPak’s Mission
BioPak’s journey began with the visionary founders, Gary Smith and Richard Fine, conceptualising a range of sustainable packaging products in 2008. The initial focus was on developing compostable packaging, setting the stage for a purpose-driven business.
“It wasn’t just a business; it was a mission,” says Jan Cerny. “Our founders aimed to develop a sustainable packaging range that would benefit the market in the long run.”
Cerny joined BioPak in 2018, bringing a wealth of experience to steer the company’s technological advancements.
NetSuite: A Catalyst for Growth
NetSuite, a cloud-based ERP solution, played a crucial role in BioPak’s growth story.
“Gary and Richard saw the opportunity not just with the product but also with the technology vision,” Jan emphasizes. “NetSuite has been incredible for BioPak; we started using it in the early days of its adoption in the Asia Pacific market, and it has been instrumental in our growth, helping us achieve 30-40 per cent year-on-year growth.”
Cerny suggests the founders recognised the need for a technology solution that aligned with their vision for sustainable growth. NetSuite provided the scalability and flexibility essential for BioPak’s ambitious plans.
Transparency and Tracking with NetSuite
“Sustainability is a core value for BioPak, demanding transparency and meticulous tracking of its environmental impact,” Jan explains. “NetSuite is our main source of truth; it allows us to store data against each item and track metrics like carbon offsets and plastic avoidance.” The platform allows BioPak to generate custom reports for customers, providing them with tangible evidence of their eco-friendly choices.
International Expansion Made Seamless
Cerny says the international expansion of BioPak was seamlessly facilitated by NetSuite’s OneWorld capabilities,
“The ease of setting up subsidiaries and handling complex logistics significantly simplifies the challenges of global business operations,” he says.
Indeed Cerny believes NetSuite’s OneWorld capabilities have been instrumental in BioPak’s international expansion. The platform facilitated the setup of subsidiaries in locations like Singapore and the UK. The ease of multi-subsidiary management within NetSuite simplified complex operational challenges associated with international growth. Cerny notes that NetSuite’s support was invaluable during the acquisition of a UK-based business, streamlining the integration process.
Quality Control and Consistency
Maintaining product quality and consistency is paramount for a sustainable packaging company. While BioPak doesn’t handle manufacturing within NetSuite, the platform aids in supply chain management, inventory control, and ensuring compliance with quality standards. “NetSuite does almost everything we need for business operations,” Cerny said. “We’ve been fortunate that NetSuite can adapt to our requirements, and any additional needs are manageable within the platform.”
Technology’s Role in Future Sustainability
Looking ahead, Cerny envisions technology continuing to be a driving force for BioPak’s growth. “Technology is changing how we sustain and grow; with NetSuite, we have customized dashboards for every department, providing real-time insights,” he said. “It’s an interesting journey ahead, and NetSuite continues to be a valuable partner, offering solutions that align with our vision.”
Navigating AI’s Carbon Footprint Challenge
When asked about the potential impact of AI on sustainability, Cerny acknowledged the environmental concerns associated with computing power. “AI’s computing demands are enormous; it’s an aspect we need to consider,” he commented. “BioPak is actively exploring partnerships with environmentally conscious logistics providers and contemplating the adoption of electric vehicles to further reduce its carbon footprint.”
Continued Collaboration with NetSuite
As BioPak embarks on its digital transformation journey, Cerny expresses confidence in NetSuite’s capabilities. He values the collaborative nature of the NetSuite community and looks forward to the platform’s future innovations.
“We’ve been fortunate that NetSuite can adapt to our requirements, and any additional needs are manageable within the platform,” Jan highlighted. He appreciates NetSuite’s commitment to flexibility and constant improvement, aligning seamlessly with BioPak’s ethos of sustainable growth.
BioPak’s success story stands as a testament to the transformative power of technology, with NetSuite serving as a key enabler of the company’s sustainable mission and global expansion. The collaboration between BioPak and NetSuite exemplifies how innovative technology can drive positive change in the business landscape.
