The three types of hashtags you must use in your socials
Hashtags continue to play a significant role in organising and categorising content on social media platforms including Instagram and TikTok. Hashtags help users discover relevant content. They can increase the visibility and reach of your content, making it easier for others to find and engage with your posts, explains social media expert Amani Youssef.
Hashtags are especially important for startup businesses and they can help increase brand visibility and reach a wider audience. Using specific hashtags related to your startup’s industry or niche can help potential customers discover your brand. My recommendation is to categorise your hashtags into three groups: local, specialised, and popular.
Local hashtags
Local based hashtags are hashtags that are specific to a particular geographical location. They help to target a specific audience within a specific region or city. For example, if you are a local business in Sydney using hashtags like #sydneyhealth, #sydneybusiness, or #sydneyfitness can help you reach and engage with a local audience. These hashtags are commonly used by people in that area and can increase the visibility of your content to individuals interested in or located in that particular location.
Specialised hashtags
Specialised hashtags are hashtags that are specific to a particular industry, interest, or niche. These hashtags are used to target a specific audience that shares a common interest in a service or product. For example, if you are a business focused on health and nutrition , using hashtags like #diet #dieticsolutions can help you connect with individuals who are interested in your services. These specialised hashtags enable you to reach a relevant and engaged audience who are more likely to be interested in your content. Using such hashtags can increase the visibility of your posts and attract followers who share similar interests.
Popular hashtags
Popular hashtags are hashtags that are widely used and have a high volume of posts associated with them. The popularity of hashtags can vary over time and across different platforms. Using popular hashtags will ensure your post gets increased visibility and brand exposure.
Quick tip: try using 5 x local hashtags, 5 x specialised hashtags and 5 x popular hashtags in your captions to ensure you’re getting the most reach in each category.
Hashtags can help startups increase brand awareness, target specific audiences, build communities, and stay informed about industry trends. Incorporating hashtags into your social media strategy can be an effective way to boost your startup’s visibility and engage with your target audience.
