How to use Instagram to grow your email database
Building and maintaining a strong online presence is crucial for businesses today. While social media platforms like Instagram are often associated with visually engaging content and connecting with followers, they also provide the perfect opportunity to collect email addresses explains social media expert Amani Youssef.
A super easy yet underused Instagram story sticker called “Questions” exists. Add a question sticker to your story by selecting it from the sticker tray after taking a photo or video. Type out your prompt, place it wherever you’d like, and share it to your story. When your followers see the sticker, they can tap it to reply. This is a great way to collect email addresses on Instagram as you’re able to ask them a question or even propose an offering in which they would be required to enter their email address in the question box.
Collecting email addresses will allow you to establish a direct and personal line of communication with your audience. Email marketing will allow you to reach out to your followers individually, delivering tailored content, promotions, and updates right to their email inbox. Unlike social media algorithms, email ensures your message is more likely to be seen by your audience, boosting engagement and fostering a deeper connection with your followers.
Emails and sales season
Email marketing is especially important this time of the year when your social media feeds will become heavily saturated with promotions and content moving into the festive season.
Unlike social media platforms, where algorithms and policies can change at any moment, owning and managing your email list ensures you have full control over your marketing efforts. By collecting email addresses through Instagram, you are safeguarding your ability to communicate with your audience, regardless of any potential changes on the platform or how saturated sale/occasion dates become.
I highly recommend to start collecting email addresses prior to Black Friday Sales which will be one of the biggest sale events this year. Save the date – Friday 24th of November. Nearly all e-commerce brands on Instagram were pushing sales during this period last year, so if you want your sale to reach a wider audience, you’ll want to be communicating it from other platforms rather than just Instagram.
Extending your reach
By collecting email addresses from your Instagram followers you can extend your reach beyond the platform itself. Email marketing allows you to connect with your audience even when they are not browsing social media, ensuring that your brand remains top-of-mind.
When someone voluntarily provides their email address, they are displaying a level of trust in your brand. By consistently delivering valuable content and engaging offers, you can nurture this trust and establish yourself as an authority within your industry. Things to remember: if they subscribe to your mailing list, you won’t want to bombard them with sales emails. Respect the offering of the email address and ensure you always have an unsubscribe button visible at the bottom of the email.
Collecting email addresses through Instagram offers numerous advantages for individuals and businesses looking to expand their reach, build relationships, and drive conversions. Use that question sticker!
