With a career spanning over 25 years, Jenny Pither has gained a profound understanding of the intricacies of administration in allied health. Her journey began from the ground up, and it is this journey that informs her passion for supporting practitioners in this field, reports Annette Densham.
Recognising that healthcare professionals often excel in patient care, but face challenges in managing the administrative side of their service, Jenny founded Allied Health Admin and Consulting.
As the driving force behind Allied Health Admin and Consulting, Jenny knows exactly what it takes to ensure the smooth operation of practices and the well-being of patients and their families. Jenny has found that one of the biggest hurdles to setting up an allied health business is that many practitioners miss vital foundational steps to set their business up for success.
This is the ‘boring’ stuff no one wants to do or knows how to do.
As an expert in the allied health industry, Jenny understands that being an allied health business owner involves more than addressing immediate goals. It’s about building a legacy with long-term success and impact in mind. “The cornerstone of this enduring legacy lies in the establishment of well-defined systems, efficient processes, and effective procedures,” Jenny said.
“When embarking on the entrepreneurial journey in allied health, it’s crucial to envision your business as a lasting legacy. While your initial focus may revolve around immediate needs and serving your current clients, it’s equally important to prepare for the future.”

At the heart of any business is the power of systems. Jenny is a big believer that systems capture the entire business functions.
“Systems are structured frameworks, which are the driving force behind efficiency and consistency. They enable you to uphold a high standard of service delivery, even as your business expands,” she said. “To have a smooth flowing business, an important consideration is the implementation of a practice management system or a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
“These tools streamline your business operations, including administrative processes and the management of client information, appointments, and billing, so you can focus on what you do best.”
The challenge is knowing which CRM to choose that is right for your business. We live in a world filled with options. Jenny said there is an art in choosing the right CRM.
“This is a pivotal decision for any business owner. There are many options, some tailored to specific allied health disciplines, while others offer a comprehensive array of features to accommodate a wider spectrum of needs,” Jenny explained. “When it comes to choosing, there are several key factors to consider, including ease of use, scalability, and the potential for integration with other software systems that may become essential in the future.”
Saving time and money
Often, it all comes down to trial and experimentation with a few CRM options to identify the one that aligns most seamlessly with your business goals and long-term vision. Jenny said it is a good idea to avoid merely opting for what suits your immediate needs. “Instead, think about how this tool can evolve alongside your business,” she said. “Consider both your “must-haves” and “nice-to-haves.” There is no one-size-fits-all solution, so it’s crucial to remain flexible up to a certain point.”
Without uniformity and efficiency in business systems, many are left with a disorganised mess that impacts growth and client satisfaction. Jenny said systems play a pivotal role in reducing wasted time, minimising errors, and ensuring every client receives a consistent, high standard of care. “With well-defined processes in place, you can seamlessly accommodate an increasing number of clients and services,” she said. “One of the primary advantages of establishing robust systems and processes is the flexibility they offer as a business expands.
“The foundational framework will already be in place, making it easier to integrate new team members and scale up your operations. This adaptability is indispensable for realising your long-term vision and maintaining unwavering quality as your business experiences growth.”
